and the TV personality Daniel Lindemann will share with you about Pyeongsaengdo, the digitally restored version of a Korean cultural heritage!

To provide more exhibitions of paintings that may be difficult to display in real life,
KOCOWEEK X National Museum of Korea
has released the online content, “Pyeongsaengdo, Paintings of Ideal Life in Joseon,” which is a digitally restored version of “Pyeongsaengdo.”
The video features the entire process of K-digital restoration.

Pyeongsaengdo is a painting of eight panels
that depicts the most ideal life as regarded by the people of Joseon, starting from birth to the later years in life.

Pyeongsaengdo Panel 1 –First Birthday Celebration (初度弧筵) is the first birthday party of a child.
One interesting point is to tell the fortune of the child based on what item among a collection of trinkets the child picks on that day.

Pyeongsaengdo Panel 2 – Welcoming the Bride (婚姻式) is a picture of a groom visiting his bride’s house to get married.

Pyeongsaengdo Panel 3 – Forming a Procession after Passing the State Examination (應榜式) is a picture of a man who has passed the government exam and parades around the village singing and dancing for three days.

Pyeongsaengdo Panel 4 –Succeeding to the Senior Fifth Official Post in the Office of Special Advisors (翰林兼修撰時) is a picture of a man who has assumed the post of Senior Fifth, among the government official levels of the Senior First to Junior Ninth posts.

Pyeongsaengdo Panel 5 – Magistrate Appointment of Songdo, the Junior Second (松都留守到任式) is a picture of a man being appointed as a Magistrate of Songdo, the Junior Second.

Pyeongsaengdo Panel 6 – Succeeding to the Post of the Minister, the Senior Second Official (兵曹判書時) is a picture of a man taking the post of Senior Second, or, a minister.

Pyeongsaengdo Panel 7 – Succeeding to the Post of the Senior First Official (左議政時) is a picture of a man who has been promoted to the Senior First post.

Pyeongsaengdo Panel 8 – Sixtieth Wedding Anniversary Celebration (回婚式) is a celebration of the sixtieth wedding anniversary with a wedding ceremony.

All in all, the eight panels depict the most celebratory moments in life as regarded by the people in Joseon.

For everyone around the world to admire Pyeongsaengdo online,
KOCOWEEK and the National Museum of Korea have created the digital restoration contents of Pyeongsaengdo!

The digital restoration was performed by taking a photograph of the real-life Pyeongsaengdo,
dividing the image of each of the eight panels, comparing the missing, discolored, and blemished parts with the others, then restoring the entire work digitally.
