[KOCOWEEK] Introduce ; Reinterpretation of Pansori by DJ FENNER

KOCOWEEK has launched special online contents with the three major cultural organizations of
Korea, which are the National Museum of Korea, Namwon Gugak Center, and the Asia Culture Center
to share Korean traditional culture with the world.

The online content of <Introduce; K-Heritage> we will be showing you today
is presented by KOCOWEEK and the Namwon Gugak Center.
It is a video of a new version of pansori, with DJ FENNER.

DJ FENNER, who became famous after DJing for major global events
such as the ‘Ultra Music Festival’ and the ‘Global Gathering Festival,’
has reinterpreted pansori, Korea’s traditional music, in a modern genre. Aren’t you excited to check it out?

The first work reinterpreted by KOCOWEEK X Namwon Gugak Center, and DJ FENNER
is Heungboga, one of the most signature songs of pansori.

Heungboga tells the famous didactic story of Heungbo, a kind man who is blessed after taking care of a swallow with a broken leg,
and his greedy older brother Nolbo, who ruins himself and his family by his own greedy hand.

The part of the pansori song that describes Heungbo eating in a hurry
in Hwimori Jangdan, the fastest jangdan of pansori,
was reinterpreted as a song of
the “Electronic Melbourne Bounce” genre.

Next is Jeokbyeokga.

In the Chinese novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms (三國志演義),
the highlight is definitely the Battle of Red Cliffs (赤璧大戰).
Jeokbyeokga is a pansori song that tells the story of Jojo,
who was defeated by fire at the Jeokbyeok River, but miraculously survived.

DJ FENNER has transformed the part where soldiers, who were wounded by fire during the war,
cry out their sorrows with the birds in Jungmori Jangdan,
to the modern “Big Room” genre.
Check it out!

Sugungga was a pansori version sung by entertainers
of the story of a hare and a turtle along with an emperor in the underwater palace.
<Tiger Is Coming> by Lee Nalchi is one of the most famous parts of the song,
and DJ FENNER has reinterpreted it in the Dubstep genre!

A tiger is coming, a tiger is coming!
A beast is coming to the valley deep in the pine forest!

Sing along with KOCOWEEK!

Among the five songs of pansori, Simcheongga is known as the most tragic.

The story is about Simcheong, a devoted daughter who throws herself into the sea of Indangsu as a sacrifice for 300 sacks of rice to Buddha for her blind father.
However, she is brought back to life by the grace of the Jade Emperor and becomes an empress.
Eventually, her selfless act allows her father to regain his eyesight.

The saddest part of Simcheongga
will be reinterpreted in the “Techno” genre by DJ FENNER!

The last pansori work that was reinterpreted by KOCOWEEK X Namwon Gugak Center and DJ FENNER
is Chunhyangga, a love story that transcends class.

Chunhyangga tells the heartbreaking love story of Chunhyang, the daughter of Wolmae, who is a gisaeng in Namwon,
and Yi Mong-ryong, the son of a government official in Namwon,
who made a promise to marry, but had to part.
Check out the story in the Hardstyle genre!
