The Korean Culture and Information Service takes the lead in promoting Korean culture all over the world in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Centers in overseas countries.

Today, we are glad to share the news that Korea has been invited to the 2022 Hungary National Folk and Heritage Festival as a country of honor.

It will be a great opportunity to promote the beautiful traditional culture of Korea, as not only local people in the country but tourists from all around the world are expected to come and join the festival.


The Hungary National Folk and Heritage Festival, one of the biggest festivals in Hungary that attracts more than 70,000 people from all around the country and Europe, is held in August, the month in which the National Foundation Day of Hungary is celebrated.

It is a time-honored festival where folk craft artisans from many different countries participate and introduce their folklore and traditional culture.
This year, Korea has been invited to this festival as a country of honor and will have a great opportunity to showcase the beautiful traditional culture of Korea to visitors attending the festival.

The Hungary National Folk and Heritage Festival will be held near the Matthias Church of Buda Castle for three days from August 19 to 21, 2022.

As we are invited as a country of honor, various displays and events such as traditional crafts, various experience booths, traditional performances, and parades have been prepared and organized by the Korean Cultural Center in Hungary.


The Hungary National Folk and Heritage Festival will offer a great chance to introduce Korean traditional crafts and performances that inherit and express tradition in modern and creative ways.

In celebration of its 10th anniversary this year, the Korean Cultural Center in Hungary will stage various genres of performances that interpret Korean tradition in a modern way as well as presenting Korean traditional crafts of many artists.

You can enjoy and experience performances that are a mixture of Korean traditional and contemporary culture on the outdoor special stage from August 20 to 21.


You can enjoy three performances by three different teams while sampling delicious Korean food at the Hungary National Folk and Heritage Festival.

<Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Dance Company> performs traditional dances of Jeju Island and also the “Reign of Peace” and “Jinsoechum” that exhibit and express a generous spirit that seeks to bring people together. It is anticipated that the audience will be charmed and delighted by the variety of dance moves that reflect the native features and beautiful scenery of Jeju Island.

You can also watch “Stand Up” by <Kkokdugwangdae>, the only art troupe in Korea that specializes in performing plays wearing masks, and “Samulnori” by <TAGO> who is contributing to the worldwide promotion of Korean music.

A Hanbok fashion show will be held at 10:30 am on August 21, and parades will take place six times in total during the festival period.


Traditional crafts booths will be open where you can appreciate and experience Korean traditional crafts of many different artists during the 2022 Hungary National Folk and Heritage Festival.

Many artists including artisan Kim Young-Jo, one of the national intangible cultural assets in the field of Pyrography, artisan Kim Su-Yeon, one of the national intangible cultural assets in the field of Dancheong, and Maeng Wook-Jae who introduces everyday-life ceramics by applying traditional ceramics in modern ways will participate in the festival to introduce various Korean traditional crafts such as patchworks, Pyrography, Dancheong, calligraphy, ceramics, paper string arts, and more.

Also, an open studio will be set up online to share some stories that you cannot hear offline such as interviews with artists and their explanations about their works, performance preparation processes, and backstage stories.
