Korean Culture Scene, Introduction of events by Korean Cultural Centers (The UK, Hungary, Belgium)

 

The Korean Culture and Information Service that takes the lead in developing customized contents reflecting local demands for Korean culture is holding a global Korean culture festival in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Centers in overseas countries.

The festival this year titled ‘Korean Culture Scene’ that will take place in six different countries and regions including the UK, Belgium, Hungary, Hong Kong, Thailand, and Vietnam is full of exciting events such as various local festivals, performances, and displays.

The Korean Culture Scene to be held throughout Europe (the UK, Hungary, Belgium) will provide perfect opportunities to promote Korean Culture by holding various events such as concerts, displays, and walking tours in collaboration with the Korean Cultural Center of each country.

The Korean Cultural Center in the UK holds a variety of Korean Culture Scene events that are linked to the Edinburgh Festival, one of the biggest performing arts festivals in the world.

The Edinburgh International Festival has invited pianist Cho Seong-Jin who gave a fantastic performance with the Philharmonia Orchestra on August 7 and the Company Wang Lamirez, one of whose directors is Korean-German choreographer Honji Wang who will give performance from August 19.

During the Edinburgh Fringe Festival ‘Korean Showcase,’ a total of seven teams performing traditional music and marionette plays will present colorful aspects of Korean art and culture, while the Korean Culture and Tourism public relations hall ‘Korea House’ will hold various events such as a crafts display, Hanbok experience, and screening events from August 5 to 27. 


In London in September, a K-music festival along with the Korean Wave Exhibition in the V&A Museum are scheduled to be held as well as a house concert that introduces rising Korean musicians in collaboration with the Royal Academy of Music.

An exhibition by Korean media artists in collaboration with the Art Center Nabi, Korean Film Night Special Screening, London Korean Film Festival, Chuseok events by the British Museum and much more will fill up the Korean Culture Scene. 

The Korean Culture Experience Workshop and Korean Evening will take place from August 26 to 29 as events linked to the Stourbridge International Festival of Glass where you can find exhibits by Korean craft artists.


In Hungary, performances and crafts with the theme of Korean Tradition will be mainly introduced.

During the 2022 National Folk and Heritage Festival (August 19-21), one of the biggest traditional festivals in Hungary, as a guest country of honor, we will introduce crafts of Korean artists and hold various events and performances such as Korean food experience booths, Talchum on the special outdoors stage, Samulnori, traditional dances, and parades.

What is more, the ‘Korean Classic Days’ will be held in September for a month to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Korean Cultural Center in Hungary.

It will be a great opportunity to appreciate works and performances of artists who recreate tradition in their own ways such as the Gyeonggi Sinawi Orchestra, LEENALCHI, and Korea National Symphony Orchestra. 


With the theme of ‘SOUND KOREA 2022: K-pop to K-Classic,’ performances and associated events where the origins of major genres of Korean music can be experienced will be held.

These performances will take place in Brussels and other major cities from September to December, and it is worth noting that they are each divided into the different genres of modern sound, traditional sound, and classical sound as concept concerts.

A performance by Black Swan, a Korean pop music conference, Friday night concerts titled ‘Korean Night’ by Korean Indie bands and DJs, the LEENALCHI Band’s first solo concert in Belgium, concerts by Sun-Wook Kim and Clara-Jumi Kang, and more are scheduled to be held.

It will be a perfect opportunity to experience every aspects of Korean music from K-pop to K-classic.
