KOCIS Korean Culture Scene’s K-Pop Touring Exhibition to be held at the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand (October 31, 2022 – January 31, 2023)

The popularity of Korean culture growing from day to day!

While various areas of Korean culture are surging in popularity, it would be fair to say that K-Pop is the most loved one.

Since K-Pop is not merely Korea’s idol music but has been created through numerous inflection points and innovative changes, it would not be too much to say that it is a form of culture that embraces Korean history.

In a bid to promote K-Pop and a multitude of aspects of Korean culture embedded within it, the KOCIS (Korean Culture and Information Service) has been holding a touring exhibition <K-Pop, Now Here> as part of the Korean Culture Scene 2022.

Following its tour in Vietnam and Belgium, the exhibition <K-Pop, Now Here> hosted by the KOCIS Korean Culture Scene is to be held at the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand located in Bangkok for three months from October 31 (Monday), 2022 to January 31 (Tuesday), 2023.

The Korean Cultural Center in Thailand has already held many different K-Pop events through K-Pop Lover’s Night, K-Pop Cover Dance Festival, Love Korea Festival, and Korea Culture Week.

Given that all the K-Pop related events were held with huge success, the exhibition <K-Pop, Now Here> is also expected to elicit a tremendous response in Thailand.

<K-Pop, Now Here> co-hosted by the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand and the Korean Culture and Information Service

The K-Pop idol music that comes with trendy pop sounds and fantastic performances may just take up a small part of the whole history of Korean pop music, but when it comes to the music scene, its significance is overwhelming.

Because there are various perspectives such as those related to music, commerce, and society by which we can view and describe K-Pop, it is commonly thought that K-Pop reflects past history and future trends in our society and that it is also a form of culture that represents the ethnic and social characteristics of Korean people very well.

In the exhibition <K-Pop, Now Here>, you can see and understand the history of K-Pop and its trends from a new standpoint and how it has helped shape the current Korean society.

The exhibition <K-Pop, Now Here> co-hosted by the Korean Cultural Center in Thailand and the Korean Culture Scene is divided into six different sections.

 “K-Pop always MOVE”
- This section embodies the intrinsic values and meanings of K-Pop that have been emerging and evolving to become a vital part of contemporary culture through the processes of amalgamation and realignment from its beginning up until now.

“Flexible WAVE”
- This section is comprised of the symbolic moments of Korean pop music from the 1950s to the 1980s, the period when K-Pop just began.

“Colorful WAVE”
- In this section, you can see media arts and project mappings outlining how K-Pop grew and evolved between the 1990s and the 2000s through experimentations that involved harmonizing with various kinds of popular culture

“World Fandom MAP / Photo Zone”
- In this section, K-Pop that’s been creating a new culture since its beginning through to the year 2020 is presented through the World Fandom Map and the idol standees.

“Next WAVE”
- This section shows how people from all around the world are communicating with each other and leading a new culture together through K-Pop using realistic contents mixing fandom and concert videos.

“Always HERE!”
This section displays a mosaic media using the photos of audiences who are communicating and hanging out with each other through K-Pop. The section displays the audience members themselves with the photos they have taken and reproduced.
